People and Place: Camden
Bloom along the Railway and Belong
Transforming unused green land along a railway into a community space

Our Why
Families regularly pass an underused, littered space next to the playground, which feels unsafe and depressing, especially in wet or very hot weather. Without positive use, it affects wellbeing, pride and everyday community life.
Our Idea
We’re aiming to open up access to an unused strip of green land along a railway to create a space of connection and safety. Our idea is to rewild the area, improve the local environment and create opportunities for growing food and herbs. This space could become a shared community asset, cared for by local volunteers and used daily on the walk to and from the high street. This project will also work long-term to strategically build partnerships with stakeholders to fully make use of this community asset. With coordination and modest funding, we’re on the way to launching a community-led hub that builds belonging and pride.
