Building inclusive public toilet access to support health and connection

Our Why

Kilburn lacks public toilets, excluding older people, disabled residents and families from spending time locally. This worsens health, increases isolation and affects the wellbeing and inclusivity of public spaces.

Our Idea

We’re working to create a permanent network of open and accessible toilets facilities for Kilburn High Road and Grange Park. Building on two successful summer pilots, our idea is to secure funded, attended or overseen facilities that feel safe and welcoming. Alongside toilets, we’ve used community activities to reduce anti-social behaviour and increase footfall. With the right partnerships and revenue model, this could deliver lasting public health and social benefits for Kilburn.

About

Loos for Kilburn

The project is led by Kilburn residents Michael Stuart, Lynda Stuart and Mrs Niki Khan, with long-standing ties to the area. Michael has a background in volunteering and community project management; Lynda is Chair of Kilburn Older Voices Exchange and a strong advocate for older residents; and Niki is a local governor with deep roots in the community. Their work is rooted in long-term commitment to Kilburn and a belief that practical improvements like public toilets can transform everyday life and community confidence.
