Clare is an architect, filmmaker and funder. In twenty years making TV documentaries about social issues, she collaborated with people to understand and tell their stories. She then trained as an architect in the hope of transforming the conditions that she had witnessed. But she discovered a development industry driven by commercial interests rather than people’s needs and in which they have little say or trust.
In 2016 she founded ftwork (now Footwork) to ensure clear social principles and local voices are at the heart of place-making (development and regeneration). Footwork has since supported many local initiatives to help build resilience within communities, whilst also pushing for better education, good practice and policy change.
