David runs an exhibition and interpretation consultancy, Past Present, which as the name implies is based on the belief that then and now can speak to each other fruitfully. His varied career has taken in academic history, independent writing and publishing, independent television production, and senior roles in cultural organisations, as Head of Access & Learning at Historic Royal Palaces and Head of Exhibitions at the British Museum.
Engagement with place and people has been at the core, seen vividly in his current project for community engagement and co-creation at Middleport Pottery in Stoke-on-Trent. David is a Trustee of the Heritage Education Trust, and was previously a Trustee of The Heritage Alliance and Turner’s House Trust. He lives in east London.
